The History:

Around 1897 the Italian developed a liquid ink that could be stored as a stick or marker. When you wanted to do some writing, you shaved some ink off the stick and mixed it with nitro paint and many secret poison. 
This type of ink is still used today through many empty markers. In the United States, and all over the world.
